How do you handle identity in a Web3 world where complete transparency and total anonymity walk hand in hand? The answer to that varies depending on the blockchain you're using, but on Tezos it's easy. There's a few different ways people can identify themselves and we're going over the most common.

Tezos Domains (.tez)

Tezos Domains are a lot like ENS domain names. You can use your .tez in a lot of areas where your tz1.... address could also be used. Kukai and Temple wallet both support it, as well as DNS.xyz! A .tez domain is often one of the first things purchased for a new Tezos user. One of the best parts of getting a domain is that they start at 1 tez for any domain 5 characters or longer. That's good value. šŸ“ˆ

Anybody can register a .tez domain though, and so I treat it as just one data point and not anything meaningful by itself.

tzprofiles

Tezos Profiles is a service that lets you tie different social media accounts to a Tezos wallet address. You can verify your Twitter account, for example, by signing a message with your wallet address, and then sending a verifying tweet. It's a minimal website but it's useful to have filled out. Many different apps in Tezos will use and display Tezos Profile information if you have it filled out.

It doesn't cost anything and only takes a few minutes to do. It's the absolute bare minimum any creator should be doing.

DNS.xyz

šŸ”—: https://dns.xyz

I mean, what kind of blog would DNS.news be if we can't flex DNS.xyz? We use .tez domains quite a bit, from our NFT searches to the way we present our profile page URLs. (like dns.xyz/klick.tez!) We use Tezos Domains and tzprofiles information all over the place on the DNS platform. DNS even acts as a source of truth for other projects like the GOGOs.

So don't wait to set up your DNS profile! You'll be able to set all of your featured links to the social channels and other pages you want showcased. šŸ§

tzkt.io Verification

šŸ”—:TzKT Listing Application (Google form)

TzKT.io is an outstanding block explorer for the Tezos blockchain. You can use it look up virtually anything that has ever happened on the chain, search up wallet and smart contract addresses, it can find all sorts of information if you need it.

They're the most used block explorer and so they have a listing application you can fill out. You can get a small About section for your wallet with some links to your socials if you desire. It's a little clunky but only takes a few minutes to complete. I recommend updating it once in a while.

TezID.net

TezID at the moment doesn't have a ton of utility for the average user. The use case for this type of identification is more aimed at the institutional and KYC level, rather than using it to identify users on an NFT marketplace. But it's worth mentioning.

Those are most of the ways people can use to try and identify themselves within the Tezos ecosystem. None of it is mandatory to use, but I think all of have their place if you're trying to establish some sort of authenticity for yourself.
